Francis Goya. Long musical career… Far from over
Francis Goya – is a Belgian guitarist. His real name is Francis Weyer. Born of musician parents in the city of Liege, Belgium.
Early career
Francis Weyer receives his first guitar at the age of 13 and takes guitar lessons over a one year period.
In 1966, at the age of 16, he forms his first rock band with his brother and a few friends, “The Jivaros”.
n 1966 he meets-up with Lou Depryck (the lead singer of the “Two Man Sound” and “Hollywood Bananas”) who is becomes lead singer of Francis’s new band “Liberty Six”.
In 1970, Francis is taken on by a professional soul band, “The J.J.Band”, With whom he tours Europe and Africa. Their second album is produced by Brian Bennet (The Shadows) for CBS International in London. Thanks to all this he becomes a studio guitarist, accompanying various artists on the international scene, Demis Roussos, Three Degrees, Vicky Leandros.
The route to international fame
In 1975, a solo artists is born, Francis Weyer becomes Francis Goya.
Everything speeds up with the recording of his first single “Nostalgia”. Originally his father’s composition, rearranged by Francis and initially presented as a memory to a father, “Nostalgia” goes straight to the top of the charts, number one in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Norway and Brazil. In Finland sells over 600.000 copies, an unprecedented record for a country of only 4.000.000 inhabitants. Followed, one after the other, by gold and platinum disc in Europe, Asia and South America, “Nostalgia” overcome all language barriers and shall speed him over all the continents of the world and become his guide for the rest of his career.
The Eighties
In 1981, Francis Goya becomes the first foreign artist in history to record in Moscow with the prestigious Tsadikovsky’s Instrumental Ensemble, Male group of the Great Choir USSR Radio and TV.
In the eighties; he also works in the Netherlands with Harry Van Hoof and Ruud Jacobs, as producer for Lenny Kuhr, Benny Neyman. This is the period that allows him to experiment with various styles of orchestration and above all to perfect the “Goya Style” (A particular sound with a mixture of sensibility and sunny resonance, appreciated and followed by a faithful audience.
The Nineties
This is how, contacted by Peter Gistelinck, the producer of the musical film writer Dirk Brossé, he interprets the musical theme for the film “Boerenpsalm” (1989 and the commercial theme from “Koko Flanel” (1990).
In 1990, he forms a duo with Carmina Cabrera, the ravishing Bolivian singer, with whom he will record 3 CD’s of Latino American style, Bahia Lady (1990) Noche Latino (1993) Festival Latino (1994). With the CD “Bahia Lady he wins the prestigious Dutch Palm, Prix Edison 1991.
In 1991 and 1993 RTL television hires him to orchestrate the Luxembourg candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest in Rome and Dublin.
That is followed by a number of invitations in Thailand (1989 & 1992), Finland (1991 & 1992), Canary Islands in 1994.
A man enjoying organising shows, in 1994 he forms a duo with the Dutch artist Peter Weekers, the ex-leader and flutist of the group “Flairck”, and they record a new CD. Together, they decide to mount a visual show combining all their musical talent. The result is quite remarkable, a composite of various styles: Oriental, Romantic, Blues, Classical, Pop, Bossa Nova and even Jazzy. Accompanied by 3 young gifted artistes (on the Keyboards, Bass and Drums). Wood Wind and Strings Francis and Peter tour the Netherlands.
New millennium albums
Throughout his career, Francis Goya has recorded at least one album between tours, to arrive at the grand total of 40, for which most will become Gold or Platinum. From the last album should note the following.

In 2000 released album “De Mooiste Sfeermelodieën”.
In 2001 released album “Pleased to meet You Mr Valgre” in memory of the Estonian composer Raimond Valgre.
In 2002 released albums “Hollands Glorie”, “Hollands Glorie Kerst” and the album “A tribute to Alexandra Pakhmutova” in which Francis plays the most beautiful melodies of the famous Russian composer Alexandra Pakhmutova.
In 2003 released album “Klassieke Droommelodieën”.
In 2004 released albums “Rakkaudella”, “Magic Moments”, “Gondwana” and the duo album “Intimite” (Piano and Guitar) Francis Goya and Jean Luc Drion.
In 2005 released album “Face to Face” recorded by Francis Goya and Richard Clayderman.
In summer 2008 released album “Wings for Life”.
In May 2009 released album ”Kochac” includes 12 Polish songs about love.
New millennium concerts
Francis Goya almost every year on tour with concerts.
In April 2000 Francis gave a few exclusive concerts at the City Hall in Tallin. (Estonia)
A major tour is foreseen for April 2001in the Baltic countries including, St Petersburg.
In May 2002: Francis gave concert in St Petersburg for the presentation of the album “A tribute to Alexandra Pakhmutova”.
In October and November 2003, toured in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania.
In November 2003, toured in Russia.
In December 2003, toured in Poland.
In April 2004, toured inSt Petersburg (Russia).
In 21 January 2005, a major Gala evening at the Conrad Hotel of Brussels organised by the Polish Embassy.
In April 2005, toured Warsaw (Poland).
In 20 October 2005, a concert at the “Beaux Arts”, Brussels (Belgium).
In 2006, a large tour of concerts and promotion is foreseen in Asia.
In 2007, Francis made a long tour in Kiev (Ukraine), Minsk (Byelorussia), Moscow, St Petersburg, Kaluga (Russia).
In November 2009, toured in Siberia (Russia).
March 2010, Francis opened a music school in Marrakech - Morocco, named, The Atelier Arts & Music Francis Goya.
Training courses for adults and children are organized when Francis is not in concert tour.

Né à Liège en Belgique, de parents musiciens, Francis Goya reçoit sa première guitare à l'âge de 12 ans.
A 16 ans Francis forme son premier groupe (Les Jivaros) avec son frère batteur et quelques amis. En 1966 il rencontre le chanteur Lou (celui-ci créera plus tard le Two Man Sound) qui se joint à eux. C'est à ce moment là qu'ils changeront de nom et s'appelleront les Liberty Six. En tournée en 1970 Francis est engagé par un groupe professionnel de soul musique "le J J Band" avec lequel il enregistre deux albums dont le deuxième est produit par Brian Bennet, des Shadows. Cet LP est enregistré à Londres pour la firme de disques CBS. Grâce au J J Band Francis part en tournée à travers toute l'Europe et l'Afrique. Il devient également guitariste de studio et accompagne aussi différents artistes sur scène tels que Demis Roussos, Three Degrees, Vicky Leandros, etc….”
Le déclic "Nostalgia"
En 1975, il enregistre son premier 45 T solo (Nostalgia) qui grimpera dans tous les hits parade. Nostalgia est une mélodie douce et romantique écrite par Francis et son père. C'est là que va commencer la carrière internationale de Francis Goya. Il part en tournée à travers le monde, de l'Asie à l'Amérique latine en passant par l'Afrique du sud, la Russie etc… Entre chaque tournée il enregistre au moins un nouvel album, pour en arriver à plus de 35 LP et CD dont la plupart deviendront disques d'or ou de platine. En 1991, Francis dirige l'orchestre de l'Eurovision à Rome pour le Luxembourg ainsi qu'en Irlande en 1993.
Influences latino-américaines
Ayant toujours adoré la musique latino américaine, Francis décide en 1991 d'enregistrer parallèlement à sa musique instrumentale, un CD de chansons brésiliennes (Bahia Lady). Le timbre de sa voix et le son chaud de sa guitare font une très bonne association qui plaît beaucoup au public. Il décide de poursuivre dans cette voie et enregistre en 1992 et 1993 deux autres CD du même style (Noche Latino et Festival Latino). 1994 sera l'année du retour aux sources avec l'enregistrement d'un nouveau CD instrumental ainsi qu'une tournée d'une cinquantaine de concerts en Hollande. En 1996 un nouveau CD de musique du style New Age est enregistré (Gondwana). En 1998 Francis enregistre les plus belles chansons de Jacques Brel qui sortiront sur CD et seront distribuées sur toute l'Europe. Suivra l'album enregistré en duo avec Richard Clayderman.
Un vent de l'Est
L'album "Moscow Nights" enregistré à Moscou en 1980 et sorti en 1981 dans tous les pays de l'ex URSS devint un énorme succès qui fit de Francis une star occidentale en Europe de l'Est.
Mars 2001, premiers concerts en Estonie
C'est après vingt ans de succès en Europe de l'est que Francis fut invité en mars 2001 à donner un concert Estonie, au Philharmonic Hall de Tallin. Accompagné par l'Orchestre de chambre du Philharmonic, dirigé par Jean-Luc Drion pianiste et chef d'orchestre, complice de Francis depuis plus de trente ans. Ce premier concert remporta un tel succès que Francis dut prolonger son séjour en Estonie afin de donner un second concert le lendemain au même Philharmonic Hall. Après cette première expérience en Estonie, Francis décida d'enregistrer un album instrumental comprenant des oeuvres écrites par le grand compositeur Estonien Raimond Valgre. Cet album remporte actuellement un très grand succès en Estonie.
Actuellement l’Album Russe « A Tribute To Alexandra Pakhmutova » est distribué en Corée, Taiwan et Chine.
